
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program was launched by the Government of Canada in 2008 to strengthen Canada’s ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning.
Areas of Research:
Health research, natural sciences and/or engineering, social sciences and/or humanities.
Eligibility:
Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens who are planning to pursue their first doctoral degree in Canada. Candidates must be nominated by a Canadian Institution with a Vanier CGS quota at which they want to study. The selection criteria are:
- Academic excellence – Past academic results and by transcripts, awards and distinctions;
- Research potential – Candidate’s research history, interest in discovery, the proposed research and its potential contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field, and any anticipated outcomes;
- Leadership – Personal achievement, involvement in academic life, volunteerism / community outreach, civic engagement, etc. Ability to overcome obstacles, foster others, spearhead change, etc.
Value & Duration of Award:
C$50,000 annually for 3 years ( non-renewable )
Number of Awards:
Up to 166 scholarships are awarded globally annually.
Application & Enquiries:
Candidates must be nominated by a Canadian Institution with a Vanier CGS quota at which they want to study. Candidates cannot apply directly to the Vanier CGS program. For further information, refer to the Official scholarship website: http://www.vanier.gc.ca/en/home-accueil.html.
