The Helmholtz International Graduate School for Cancer Research in Heidelberg， Germany is the interdisciplinary and international PhD program for all students working at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). PhD students conduct research at the forefront of basic, computational, epidemiological and translational cancer research.
The DKFZ is the renowned German scientific research centre established in 1964. It has won two Nobel Prize – in Medicine in 2008 and in Chemistry in 2014 respectively.
The DKFZ is Germany’s largest biomedical research institute. Around 500 PhD students in over 100 divisions and research groups carry out research to unravel the causes and mechanisms of cancer development and to identify novel tools for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention
Field, Level & Institution of Study:
PhD Program in Cancer Research at University of Heidelberg, conducted in English.
- Excellent graduates of any nationality;
- Master of Science (MSc) or academic equivalent, including a written master’s research thesis;
- Very good school & academic records;
- Outstanding proficiency in English.
International students with Master’s degree in (molecular) biology, (bio-) chemistry, (bio-) physics, computational biology, computer science, epidemiology/public health studies and related subjects can apply for the Program.
Study & Research:
Students are supported by Thesis Advisory Committee, participate in scientific and professional skills courses, attend international conferences and receive career development support.

30 to 40 global sponsorships annually.
Value of Award:
Fully funded for three years. The salaries are competitive by national and international standards.
